History in Belgium's Waterloo
The Waterloo Battlefield is located 15 kilometers (9 miles) south of Brussels in Belgium and covers an area of 5 square kilometers (2 square miles). It is where the famous Battle of Waterloo was fought on 18 June 1815 between the French forces of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Allied armies led by the Duke of Wellington and Field Marshal Blücher.

The main sights to see at the site of the Battle of Waterloo (June 18, 1815) near Brussels in Belgium are the Lion's Mound, a huge panoramic painting, and a visitors' center with extracts from movies. Further smaller monuments and memorials are scattered throughout the battlefield, which has mostly returned back to ordinary farmland.

The Battlefield of Waterloo is in southern Belgium and is about a 2 and a half hour drive from Calais (Chunnel or Ferry). Sat nav will almost certainly take you around the Brussels ring road. All I can say is don't go there! From Calais take the route to Lille in France and then on to Waterloo.
